Guest Room Update

I am so glad that after the get together at my dad's house tonight we will be at Mikey's parents house for the weekend. We have a lot of projects to work on. We should be able to bring the leaves for the dinning room table home and fix the broken door so I can complete the hutch. Here is some of the progress so far:

This is one of my favorites. It makes it kind of look like moldings, and I was able to recycle the wrapping paper that was in the back of the old bookshelves.

My lamp and inspiration board.

This was a scrapbook paper for $.96

A platter that will probably be on the wall

The long awaited hutch, minus one door.

Brown does not scream Christmas

Brown on a Christmas ornament? Yeah, it would not be my first choice either. It is however a part of our decor. I decided to use it on three ornaments. Just with 1/4 ribbon because I felt there was enough bling to balance it out.

It all started with two disco balls. One used to hang over my review mirror when I first started driving. That would be the one with the mirror missing from the top the sun melted it off one day.

This was from a Santa Paws display.

I never saw the movie but here is a shot.

Anyways...

Remember these from my what I want for Christmas post.

I did not have to buy anything for this project, everything was free or I already had.

I started this one off with brown ribbon.

Then I used part of the jewel belt that were too short for the vintage typewriter ball no. 2.

Detail.

Back to the disco balls, I put some hot glue down and then seared the ribbon and then used four pins to secure them to the foam.

Then I added hot glue on top of this.

Then we tied a knot leaving room and then filled it with glue.

Then I tied a bow.

Once this one had the second layer or jewels it was ready to go.

Twilight

On the subject of Twilight. I cannot wait until Saturday. I have been listening to all of the soundtracks over the last few days getting ready. Now I have a new project. A few months ago Leslie and I went to Rino, we almost died on the plane and I also spilled some tomato juice on my copy of Breaking Dawn that I had brought to read on the plane. 756 pages, I had to replace it.

Now my goal is to go through it chapter by chapter and use the book pages for crafts. My first project?

I am not going to show you pictures yet but I am four hours and three chapters in to this project already, complete post soon to come.

So today I will be crafting away until I go to the symphony with my love tonight. While I craft I intend to watch One Tree Hill season six, not the whole thing just a few episodes and maybe re-prep to get to see Eclipse again tomorrow by watching Twilight and New Moon. (It is a good thing that I got up at 5am)

After holding strong for 2 days... I mean, look what I got yesterday...

So all of our dinner guests left  pretty early Sunday night because of the snow. I blogged for a while and caught up on facebook, finished cleaning up and such and tried to go to bed. This did not work. After a while I got up and decided to do some Christmas decorating. I am very torn this year. The whole time we lived in an apartment Mikey would always comment how bummed out he was that we did not have a tree. Now that we have our own place, well he has seemed to have lost all desire. The other issue is even though I have this whole tupperware tote of Christmas decorations a lot of them will not work now that we have change our color scheme. What used to be

Will now be
One thing that will always be in style is my favorite ornament that I got from Uncommon Goods a few years back it is by designer Michael Aram It is mistletoe that is dipped in silver:

Jealous? You can buy one similar by him on his website, I like the double.

I found a bunch of holiday items that I had bought over the years that I will never use. They will be going into holiday gift bags for friends.

So when it comes down to it, I really do not have that many holiday decorations and most of what I did have I will not be using now. I do not want to really buy anything more at this point because I know it will be on sale soon. My next door neighbor is all decked out and honestly I am a little jealous, ok maybe a lot jealous. But at least I know what I want and I know what colors we will be having for a while.

I was holding strong on Monday but by Wednesday I had lost it. What a good day to lose it as all Christmas decor was on sale for 50% off at the ARC and just really cheap at Salvation Army.

It is the time of year for projects and as I figured out that pretty much all of my previous Christmas decorations do not go with our new decor. Here were my great finds today:

Some body had trimmed their trees and left them at the side of the road. Free! Can't figure out what I am going to do with them, I will give you a hint, It involves a Twilight book. Another hint will come tomorrow.

I wish inspirational board pins

My mom gave these ornaments to me in 2008 when my color scheme was all about teal. As I realized the other night that is not going to work anymore. These however will work in the office guest room.

Supplies were pretty simple: the ornaments, gorilla glue and eight tacks

I took the loopies off with a large toenail clipper.

Then I glued the tacks on at various places.

Christmas Ornaments from Vintage Typewriter Balls, Volume 2

Autumn in New York was a movie that I have always loved, I might watch it this week as I am feeling a bit nostalgic.

After I made my Red Feather Typewriter Ball Christmas Ornament, I was feeling inspired and wanted to make another one that will go with the decor of our condo. In this movie Charlotte Fielding (played By Wynnona Rider) has this glass mobile sculpture that she keeps in her bedroom that reminds her of her mother she keeps adding to it as she sees things that would fit. I was unable to find any pictures of it but you can see what I am talking about in this video about a minute into it.

I decided to use a lot of the stuff that I had left over from the little bling sprays that I made for the bouquets at the wedding that will be Christmas tree decorations afterwards (Post to come). I also added to the mix a few old necklaces that I cut to length, a broken jeweled belt that were so popular years ago and a round earring that I had lost the match to. If you could find 2 hoop earrings with dangles like this it would be ideal or even 4 so you would have that as a constant all the way around. This one will be a bit more A symmetrical. I clipped on the ends of earrings that I could and I put the o rings together to add stability. It is one heavy ornament.

Christmas Ornaments from Vintage Typewriter Balls, Volume 1

A few years ago I was fortunate enough, due to my amazing shopping skills I came across a box of eight vintage typewriter balls at the goodwill. I cannot seem to remember what I paid for them. This was one of those things that I saw and had to have but was never really sure what to do with. Then last night after the night of no sleep I decided to make some Christmas ornaments.

This first one will be a gift as it does not go with my color scheme but I had these red feathers and I just could not resist.

Materials:

  • Red feather boarder
  • Red silken cord
  • One Vintage Typewriter ball
  • Hot glue gun

First tie a double knot in the silken cord and pull through the hole in the top and hot glue in place. Then roll up the feathers you can do it one of 2 ways, inward which gives you a tapered almost rabbit foot like appearance or outward that looks more like a badminton ball.

I did glue as I tightly wrapped the feathers to make sure they would fit inside of the ball.

Then I used hot glue around the top of the ball, you want it to fit snugly and make sure that there is enough hot glue in the top to hold everything in place.
